Midland Property Owners Reminded Of Tax Payment

Property owners in the City of Midland are being reminded of their summer tax payments. According to city reports, the tax payments are due by September 15. All payments are to the made to the City of Midland Treasurer’s Office, 333 W. Ellsworth St.

Should payment exceed the stipulated date, a 4% penalty will be incurred, as stated by Michigan law and City of Midland resolution. Payment options are very flexible. Property owners can pay their taxes using cash or check. Payments can be made at the City Treasurer’s Office from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. In addition, there is also the option of after-hours payments, which can be made at the depository at the City Hall.

Credit cards don’t come under the acceptable means of payments. On the other hand, residents who registered for the city’s auto-pay service will notice an automatic withdraw from their account on or before September 15.

All tax notices have been mailed to property owners since the first week of July. The notices where sent on a bright orange, sealed postcard.

This summer tax notice is a combination of several annual tax levy for Delta College, State Education Tax, Midland County Operating, and the City of Midland. It also consists of part of the annual tax levy for Midland County Educational Service Agency and Midland Public Schools. 31.7138 mills and 39.8895 mills are the respective total millage rate on principal residence property and non-principal residence real property in the City.

There is a mandatory 1% tax administration fee placed on all applicable summer and winter taxes. The administration fee, which is authorized by law, helps to cover costs of property valuation, collection of property tax levies, and other administrative processes.

There is an “Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes” available for taxpayers aged 62 or older, permanently disabled person, eligible veteran, eligible serviceperson, eligible widow or widower, a paraplegic, quadriplegic, blind person, with a household income of less than $40,000. This application can be made at the Midland Treasurer’s Office. The application helps the applicant defer the summer tax penalty on their principal residence until February 17, 2021. The deadline for the deferment application is on September 15. The application should be submitted to the treasurer’s office.

There are automatic payment options for citizens who want to pay their city property tax bill. Thanks to the auto-pay program, citizens can make automatic payments directly from their bank accounts.
